Hi, I'm David Powell

Hi, I'm David Powell

When my web team asked me to write about me, for someone with a lot to say most of the time, I completely dried up!   Self-promotion is not my style and I default to the introvert part of my character.

My very clever friend, Jill Lawton, then wrote an article on LinkedIn, which had this phrase and which so summed up my life:  “As someone now in her fourth or fifth reincarnation of work identity…. A career is (now) more like a journey by car through an urban or suburban jungle where there’s a new junction every half a mile.”

My parents were church leaders for most of my life;  I wanted to be in the RAF as an air traffic controller, but school was hell & my grades not good enough.  Work iteration one, was insurance with a detour to qualify as an administration manager; which is a joke as I hate admin and accounts, but it trained me to do it well.  After business and personal bankruptcy (they were linked & painful), work iteration 2 was (amazingly) as a rather successful IT management consultant and the least technical person in the company; that came to an end after a brutal business takeover.  My side line in book importing & distribution now became my main focus, alongside a lot of travelling the world with church ministry.  Flying and visiting nations is a passion and I could happily do it all the time.  Those years were a lot of fun until first the 2008 crash happened & then the church work dried up as well.  Leaving me now with work iteration 5, as an owner of a book publishing business which keeps growing because I keep being given publishing businesses for free!!  Now I get to empower other people’s lives and future this way.

Over the decades, it seems I have managed to acquire enough knowledge in some areas that people find it helpful to call for help; or for insight on things they are dealing with; or because of my international connections and views on what is happening in different places, some want a wider perspective.  People have wanted me to write books about all the things I have learnt or am learning at the moment, but I’m too busy publishing other people’s books to do my own. Developing people and business is way more fun than writing…. until recently!  In early 2020 I found a passion – and vision – to take all the material I have from decades of scribbling notes on different topics, one-liners from movies. podcasts; from training and equipping courses I have created, and bible studies and message I given, and put it into a website “blog”….. the perfect medium for a rambler!

So if this site is structured and focused, the team have managed to tame me and it will be better for it. If it ends up as a brain dump, and is at times rambling (like this is), then you’ll see how unstructured I really can be & as my desk testifies.

May you all live long and prosper in your life’s journey.
